David M. Ward Biography

David is originally from Ashland, Kentucky, but Central Kentucky has been his home since moving here with his wife, Elizabeth, in 1998 after one of his several active tours with the United States Army. David attended the University of Kentucky for his undergraduate studies where he earned his BHS with distinction. Upon graduation from U.K. he attended the University of Minnesota where he earned his MHA after which he graduated from the Ohio State University College of Law. It was at Ohio State where David earned awards for his legal writing and litigation skills and studied under some of the prominent law professors in the country. A lifelong Wildcat fan, David returned to his native Kentucky after serving on active duty in the United States Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps from which he retired in December 2017 with the rank of Colonel after 30 years of total service. During his military career David has served as a platoon leader, Chief of Operational Law, and Staff Judge Advocate. His deployments include 14 months with the 101st Airborne Division (AASLT) in Iraq with additional duties in Kuwait and Turkey, and 12 months as the Deputy Staff Judge Advocate at Fort Drum, New York. David's military service has taken him to multiple nations in the Middle East as well as Germany and South Korea. His military awards include the Bronze Star and Legion of Merit and he is authorized to wear the parachutist and air assault badges as well as combat service identification badge.

After a grounding in Kentucky criminal law as a Public Advocate, David joined White, McCann & Stewart, PLLC, Winchester, Kentucky’s oldest law firm in 2000 and became a partner in 2005. He serves on the Board of Clark County Community Services and is a past President of the Clark County Bar Association and was formerly the President of the Kentucky Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers where he continues to serve on the Board of Directors as a Life Member.

David is an avid runner and Crossfitter, having completed more than a dozen marathons, with a PR of 2:54:56. He is married with two children.
